Dentist Recommendation in Boston

Main Post:

I’m looking for a good dentist in Boston who isn’t going to try to add services every time I go there. I had a good one a while ago and he’s gone. The last two I have had just want to take my money. Thank you for any help!

2023 Dentist recommendation Newton/Allston/Brookline/Waltham/Back bay

Main Post:

Hi everyone, I moved to Newton area a year ago and have no knowledge about the dentists here. Now my teeth finally decided to not to delay and broke into pieces. I would like to ask if any of you would share/suggest some good personal experiences with dental offices in the area, especially somewhere that won't rip me off because I am still in school. I saw good reviews with Newton Dental group but their office will be closed for another week or so, and I would like a sooner treatment if possible...and I don't mind driving a bit further for a good visit.

I have a basic insurance for college students. TIA!

Top Comment: Also - Tufts Dental School has a low cost dental service. Many friends and colleagues have used them and been satisfied

Has anyone tried Boston Dental Partners?

Main Post:

I went to Dental Partners of Boston and I’m pretty scared about how much I’m going to have to pay for an initial xray plus cleaning. I should’ve done my research because reviews told me that they’re definitely in to take your money. This is from someone that has a premium delta dental insurance.

Top Comment:

I mean dentistry in general is definitely expensive. But I have delta and I get two cleanings a year and one X-ray covered. I guess it more or less depends if Boston Dental Partners is in-network.

Best dentists 2022

Main Post:

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new dentist, and am trying to get updated information on people's favorite dentists in the area. Just went to a place that said I had 10 cavities (6 mos ago, my family dentist said I had 0), so I'm a little wary of getting unnecessary fillings. Thoughts and recommendations appreciated!

[edit] thank you kindly for all of the responses everyone.. I'm much more well informed about dentists in the Boston area than I was when the day started!

Best dentist you know of?

Main Post:

Have disastrous teeth that are somehow misaligned even though I had braces for years. Hoping to find someone nice who can clean the yuckiness off, and be able to fix whatever the last dentist apparent didn't notice. Hope that someone here could share a helpful anecdote :)

As someone who went 8 years without going to the dentist due to embarrassment about my teeth. B central dental is great! I can’t remember the dentists name off the top of my head (there’s only one) but she is super non judgmental and very nice. I had 8 cavities and she came up with a plan to fill them all over the course of multiple appointments. While getting fillings is never pain free, she’s very generous with the Novocain and patient when I needed a breather. Definitely not fun, but the best I could ask for out of a terrible time!

ETA: they’re also open until like 7pm which is fantastic for after work appointments!

Any honest/sincere dentists around here?

Main Post:

After a few bad experiences personally, and some harrowing accounts from friends (one friend who’s not from here was told that his teeth were bad due to his being from a different country...) - I’m turning to this community for help. Does anyone know a dentist who’s just honest and upfront with what work is needed/expected and is not out to fleece my insurance? Is that even fair to expect or is all this just par for the course?

Top Comment:

Go to a dental practice named after the practitioners themselves, not a Gentle Dental, Aspen Dental type place. And yes, check reviews.

And in some cases, yes different states or different countries will have different types, approaches and levels of dental care. That dentist you mentioned may have a combination of bad bedside manner and being perhaps a bit too honest with their opinion.

Edit: Typo

Anyone else been scammed by a dentist in Boston with unnecessary procedures that turned out to be so after taking a second opinion?

Main Post: Anyone else been scammed by a dentist in Boston with unnecessary procedures that turned out to be so after taking a second opinion?

Top Comment: Yup. It took me forever to find a reliable dentist in Boston. I saw so many dentists that came up with crazy procedures I “absolutely needed done” and turns out they were all unnecessary. It’s so annoying and happens so often in this town...

Dentist in the metro Boston area who would be kind to someone in rough shape after decade of depression?

Main Post:

Depression has kicked my ass for the last 10 years and I haven’t taken great care of myself. I’m trying to get back on track and I need to find a dentist to go to for the first time in 10 years. The whole situation is really shameful and I know they’re in bad shape. I’m looking for a dentist that will be sensitive to my situation and not be cruel about it. Does anyone have suggestions for a dentist in the area for this situation?

Top Comment: Dr. Chen at C&C Dental in Brookline. Exremely nice person, check his google reviews - everyone loves him.

Good Dentists in Boston?

Main Post:

I'm fairly certain that CitiDental runs a bit of a shady operation. My wife and I tend to get the same exact procedures pushed at the same time, down to the number of cavity fills. This has happened a number of times. At first, I just accepted what they said and got a ton of work done since I hadn't had dental work in a while prior to my first visit with them, but the new "issues" just seems to keep mounting every 6 months at a suspect pace, despite the fact that I am taking better care of my teeth than ever. I've even had fillings done by them straight up pop out, which has never happened to me before.

I realize that this is probably sadly the case with most dental practices; I've read elsewhere that some even have a quota of sorts for certain procedures and that they'll even do unnecessary work to fill them.

Any recommendations for other places to check out?

all those chains are sketchy, gentle dental etc

Dr. Greenberg Sweetspot Dental in Central Square is fantastic. Very good at explaining rationale/cost/insurance and not pushing anything unnecessary.

Question about dentists in Boston area...

Main Post:

So, I need a root canal, it hurts. So I bought dental insurance (Guardian), but it turns out I have to be on their plan for over a year before they start covering any treatment. The estimate out of pocket was ~$4000. Do I have any options here? Does anyone know of any dental plans in MA that don't have a waiting period? Or perhaps there's a discounted rate for Harvard students that are studying dentistry or something? Pretty desperate :/

Top Comment:

Yes, Harvard dental school does have a teaching practice that is at a discounted rate.
