Dentist Recommendation in Boston

Main Post:

I’m looking for a good dentist in Boston who isn’t going to try to add services every time I go there. I had a good one a while ago and he’s gone. The last two I have had just want to take my money. Thank you for any help!

Good Dentists in Boston?

Main Post:

I'm fairly certain that CitiDental runs a bit of a shady operation. My wife and I tend to get the same exact procedures pushed at the same time, down to the number of cavity fills. This has happened a number of times. At first, I just accepted what they said and got a ton of work done since I hadn't had dental work in a while prior to my first visit with them, but the new "issues" just seems to keep mounting every 6 months at a suspect pace, despite the fact that I am taking better care of my teeth than ever. I've even had fillings done by them straight up pop out, which has never happened to me before.

I realize that this is probably sadly the case with most dental practices; I've read elsewhere that some even have a quota of sorts for certain procedures and that they'll even do unnecessary work to fill them.

Any recommendations for other places to check out?

Top Comment: all those chains are sketchy, gentle dental etc Dr. Greenberg Sweetspot Dental in Central Square is fantastic. Very good at explaining rationale/cost/insurance and not pushing anything unnecessary.

Best dentists 2022

Main Post:

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new dentist, and am trying to get updated information on people's favorite dentists in the area. Just went to a place that said I had 10 cavities (6 mos ago, my family dentist said I had 0), so I'm a little wary of getting unnecessary fillings. Thoughts and recommendations appreciated!

[edit] thank you kindly for all of the responses everyone.. I'm much more well informed about dentists in the Boston area than I was when the day started!

Top Comment: Gentle Dental will tell you u have 32 cavities that need to be filled right away. The worst!

Anxious with a toothache - seeking Boston dentist recommendations

Main Post:

Hi everyone!

I’ve been poking around and saw some “I hate the dentist but not this one” recommendations from a year or so ago, but with either a TMJ flare-up or (my worst fear) a need for a root canal, I wanted to get some updated recommendations.

I’ve got dental anxiety like you wouldn’t believe, and I want to find a dentist in the area who won’t make me wanna storrow myself. I’m Roslindale/JP and willing to haul ass.

Top Comment: YOU NEED SPAGNUOLO! Dr. Spagnuolo is so awesome I ubered from Boston proper to West Rox for years before finding someone as good. He won’t rip you off or upsell you services you don’t need, the staff are nice, and he’s got cool art to look at while you’re there. 617 323 0449

Non judgmental dentists?

Main Post: Non judgmental dentists?

Top Comment: Dr. Monin at Gentle Dental is a rockstar. I was in the same boat, scared and embarrassed of going in after neglecting my teeth for years. He showed me all the computer data, explained what certain medical terms meant, and made me feel like an adult at the dentist rather than a child. Newbury Street is admittedly not the easiest place to get to, I live right around the corner so it was walkable for me. But I will take any opportunity to say Dr. Monin was awesome and I’m sincerely appreciative of his kindness.

Any honest/sincere dentists around here?

Main Post:

After a few bad experiences personally, and some harrowing accounts from friends (one friend who’s not from here was told that his teeth were bad due to his being from a different country...) - I’m turning to this community for help. Does anyone know a dentist who’s just honest and upfront with what work is needed/expected and is not out to fleece my insurance? Is that even fair to expect or is all this just par for the course?

Top Comment: Go to a dental practice named after the practitioners themselves, not a Gentle Dental, Aspen Dental type place. And yes, check reviews. And in some cases, yes different states or different countries will have different types, approaches and levels of dental care. That dentist you mentioned may have a combination of bad bedside manner and being perhaps a bit too honest with their opinion. Edit: Typo

Looking for a good dentist in Cambridge, Malden or East Boston

Main Post:

I'm looking for a good dentist in Cambridge, Malden, East Boston or somewhere close to them. I want a dentist who still enjoys being a dentist; someone who won't get annoyed when their patients ask a question and will explain things to them; someone who won't try to perform work on you when you don't need it.

Top Comment: Best dentist ever and i would absolutely travel the distance for him is Richard Oliver near downtown crossing. He believes in not drilling unless it's really needed and if needed then he does the least amount of drilling needed. That is totally unlike most dentists today. He is one of a kind. I went to another dentist before him and they told me I needed a crown, several fillings, etc and Richard Oliver said I needed nothing and we could just monitor them. It's been six years now and no issues. He is the best.

Dentist Recommendations?

Main Post:

Hi all,

Does anyone have standout dentist recommendations in/around the Boston area?

I have some complex issues that need work, so looking for someone who is experienced and advanced in their practices. I have a general mistrust of dentists due to previous experiences of overaggressive treatments, so someone who isn't looking to upsell and is gentle when it comes to anxiety.

Appreciate the help!

Looking for a dentist in the Greater Boston area

Main Post:

I'm looking for a good dentist in the Greater Boston area who won't get annoyed by their patients asking questions and will explain things properly to them. A dentist who won't perform additional work when the patient doesn't require them just so they can make more money. Mostly going for cleanings and fillings but you never know what other work is needed.

Top Comment: I love Dr. Casey Cook in davis. When I had to get a filling he took the time to tell me what he was doing each step of the way and as someone who gets very overwhelmed at the dentist after talking to him about that he makes sure to take breaks and ask if I need a break.

Can anyone recommend a dental place in Boston?

Top Comment: Tufts Dental School. Most dentists these days are owned by venture capitalists. Avoid.
